WHAT IS IT?
A standing seam system is a metal roof that consists of continuous panels that run from the ridge of the roof all the way down to the eaves. Between the panels are seams connected by fasteners which are raised above the level of the metal roofing. This is where the term “standing seam” comes from. It refers to the raised or standing seam.
WHY USE STANDING SEAM METAL ROOFING SYSTEMS?
Standing seam metal roofs offer several advantages. The seams are raised above the level of the roofing panel minimizing potential entry points for moisture. There are fewer seams due to the fact that the seams only run from the top to the bottom of the roof. Other advantages to standing seam metal roofs is the ability to use Elastomeric roof coating systems to extend the existing roof systems life. Another advantage of a standing seam metal roof is the ability to retrofit a single-ply roofing system over an existing metal roof. The existing standing seam metal roof would become the roof deck for the retrofit single-ply system.
